Every image you see is built from millions of photographs, millions of ratings, and millions of clicks. Over the years, we've left behind an enormous trail of data showing what catches our attention: how long we look at a picture, which ones we share, which ones we ignore, and which ones make us stop scrolling for just a little longer.

AI didn't invent a new beauty standard. It learned ours.





When one of these women strikes you as stunning, it may not be because artificial intelligence has created the perfect woman. It may simply have generated the statistical average of male desire: a carefully calculated combination of features that, according to the data, is more likely to appeal than almost any real woman.

That raises an interesting question. Are we really as different from one another as we like to believe? If an algorithm can analyze millions of preferences and figure out which combination of features appeals to the overwhelming majority of men, maybe we have far more in common than we think.

The unsettling part isn't that these women don't exist. The unsettling part is that an algorithm has become so good at learning what we like. Creating an attractive woman is one thing. Creating attractive women over and over again that capture the attention of millions of people is something else entirely.

And that says far less about artificial intelligence... than it does about us.
