HANNES WALENDY'S NUDES

Hannes Walendy is a photographer based in Stuttgart, Germany, whose relationship with photography began far from studios and portraits. He first started out photographing horses, a hobby that gradually sparked his interest in nature and wildlife photography.

Over the years, his lens eventually turned in a different direction. Walendy discovered a new creative outlet in photographing people and, in particular, female nudes as a way to explore the beauty, naturalness, and personality of each model.

Although he describes himself as a non-professional photographer, the quality and evolution of his work speak for themselves. His photographs have appeared in various magazines and online platforms, proving once again that the "professional" label doesn't always determine the talent of the person behind the camera.

Humans have been getting naked for thousands of years. At first glance, it might seem like an activity with very little room for innovation: you’re dressed, you take your clothes off, and you’re not dressed anymore. Conceptually, there doesn’t seem to be much more to it.

But we’ve managed to incorporate dances, costumes, choreography, jumps, spins, camera cuts, camera movements, and all kinds of transitions, turning something as simple as taking off a shirt and a pair of pants into a small audiovisual production.

Some appear fully dressed and one second later they’re naked. Others use a spin, a jump, a sheet, a door, or pretty much anything lying around to make their clothes disappear. And some go as far as putting together an entire choreography just to reach exactly the same destination.

Trends, songs, filters, and transitions may change. But there are some traditions we know perfectly well how to adapt to modern times.

We first discovered Stéphane Lépine’s work in late 2014, and more than a decade later, he remains one of those artists whose work is worth revisiting from time to time.

Born in France and currently based in Germany, Stéphane Lépine is a difficult creator to categorize. Painter, illustrator, photographer... his work moves effortlessly between different artistic disciplines, using each one as a different way to express his creativity.

MY PRIVATE FIGURINE COLLECTION

For a long time, painting miniatures was mostly associated with soldiers, armies, scale models, and strategy games. Tiny figures made of metal, resin, or plastic that had to be brought to life with a ridiculously small brush, plenty of patience, and a steady hand that didn't look like it belonged to someone who'd just downed four coffees. Over the years, the hobby grew, became more specialized, and blended with other worlds until it reached manga, anime, video games, and pretty much any character someone considered worthy of a spot on a shelf.

Because buying a finished figure is one thing. Creating it yourself is something completely different.

Japanese figure collecting has a long history behind it, especially around garage kits, figures sold unassembled and unpainted so hobbyists could prepare and finish them themselves. In Japan, this culture really began gaining momentum during the 1980s, fueled by conventions, specialty stores, and a community of fans who wanted figures of characters that often didn't even exist as commercial products.

That turned collectors into something more than just buyers. Pieces had to be assembled, imperfections corrected, joints sanded, primer applied, and finally you had to face that little three-dimensional canvas, completely gray or white, that still barely resembled the character you had in your head.

And that's probably where the most interesting part of the process begins.
